Blood Drive hosted by the City of Boerne
Please donate at the City of Boerne Blood Drive! Click here to see available appointment openings.
The need for blood is growing as hospitals restore their elective surgery schedules, including procedures that are being rescheduled because of COVID-19. As we approach summer, we anticipate blood donations will not keep pace with surgical needs.
Because of the impact of coronavirus, there are only 39 blood drives scheduled this May; last year in May, the community sponsored 162 blood drives. Again, we feel the threat of the community blood supply collapsing, creating an additional life-threatening medical crisis.
You can make a lifesaving difference! Please confirm your summer blood drive today!
While it remains uncertain when/how businesses can return to “normal” operations, it is imperative our blood services leaders commit to specific dates for their group’s blood drives. Please be creative in brainstorming with your colleagues and executive team to identify ways healthy people can resume giving the gift of life. Think…in what ways CAN we be Texas STRONG!!
We have learned how to keep our donors safe by changing blood drive setups to allow social distancing.
We continue to keep our donors and staff safe by following all CDC and Metro Health Department guidelines and taking precautions, including:
- Hosting drives in large venues that provide adequate space to allow for recommended social distancing between donor beds and waiting areas.
- Taking donors by appointment only to avoid crowding and manage flow.
- Wearing face masks and making them available to donors who don’t have one.
- Temperature checks of potential donors and staff as they enter facilities.
All these practices make it safe for people to come together and share that lifesaving
medicine that makes it possible for hospitals to perform needed surgeries.
Thank you for being one of the extraordinary individuals during these extraordinary times!!
Best,
Linda Rapp
