Bandera Electric Cooperative proudly distributes electricity to members across seven counties in Central Texas. The BEC Fiber division, began offering 100% fiber broadband in 2017 and currently provides fiber internet service to members and subscribers in eight counties in the Texas Hill Country.

Our Technical Systems department is looking for a Journeyman Line Technician. A Journeyman Line Technician is responsible for supporting the commissioning, inspection, maintenance, and repair of our grid infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our distribution and metering equipment.

 

Essential Job Duties

 

Maintenance and Repair

  •  Install and maintain current transformer (CT) metering equipment.
  •  Meter checks/replacements.
  •  Perform inspections and maintenance of voltage regulators, electronic reclosers, and capacitor banks in             accordance with BEC procedures.
  •  Prepare, maintain, and file inspection reports.
  •  Provide technical support for grid modernization and feeder automation initiatives.
  •  Assist in resolving power quality issues across the Cooperative.
  •  Contribute to long-term goals aligned with Bandera Electric Cooperative’s Strategic Plan.
  •  Operate and support electronic controls, programming and communications.
  •  Follow quality standards, safety procedures, and company policies.
  •  Coordinate activities with other departments and execute work
  •  Stay up to date on industry advancements and best practices.
  •  Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  •  Respond to and resolve outages as assigned.
  •  Available for call-out duty

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of meters and CT equipment
  • Proficient in the use of laptop computers using Microsoft operating systems and office software.
  • Ability to install and use technical software to program and test electronic controls.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles and safety practices.
  • Effective in problem-solving, time management, and handling shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line and wiring diagrams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent


 

Experience

  • 5 years of experience in electric line construction, maintenance and equipment.
  • DOL Journeyman Lineman Certification or equivalent.
  • Pole Climbing/Pole Top Rescue
  • Knowledge of meters and CT equipment
  • Proficient in the use of laptop computers using Microsoft operating systems and office software.
  • Ability to install and use technical software to program and test electronic controls.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles and safety practices.
  • Effective in problem-solving, time management, and handling shifting priorities
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Texas Class A CDL and Related Insurance 
  • Must pass a background, drug screening and physical

Working Conditions

The working conditions for this position involve a fast-paced work environment with strict deadlines and

a focus on multiple tasks and projects. Other mental demands for this position include performing

complex or varied tasks, performing simple and repetitive tasks, attain precise standards/attention to

detail, be able to control your plan and pace of work, be able to work under little supervision and follow

instructions, be able to influence people and work in confrontational situations, irregular hours,

overtime, reading, working alone, working in a group and traveling. The work environment is primarily in

an outdoor setting in all weather conditions, with a focus on electrical installation and maintenance. The

position requires working at heights, traveling to different job sites, and exposure to noise, vibration,

glare, moving objects, slippery surfaces, congested areas, fumes/vapors/gasses, electromagnetic fields,

high voltage electricity, and risk of serious injury or death.


 

Physical Requirements

 

The physical requirements for this position involve a consistent ability to stand and perform a variety of

reaching movements, including chest to shoulder and below chest level. Additionally, the ability to

perform elbow flexion and extension, wrist flexion and extension, wrist rotation, neck-forward bending

and flexion, backward bending, twisting, turning, tilting, and kneeling is necessary. The role also requires

frequent driving, bending forward, twisting, reaching-above shoulder, crouching and squatting, climbing,

and foot/pedal action. These requirements align with the typical physical duties involved in this role, such as

working on electrical equipment and power lines, which requires strength, flexibility, and dexterity. Must

be able to lift 50lbs.
