Veterinarian Spay and Neuter
Our primary mission at the Hill Country Animal League is to help prevent unwanted, neglected and abused dogs and cats by providing affordable spay/neuter services, preventative care, and guidance on responsible pet ownership. Role Description
This is a contract on-site role for a Veterinarian at Hill Country Animal League, SPCA. Inc. located in Boerne, TX. The Veterinarian will be responsible mainly for performing surgeries in a high volume spay and neuter clinic. Familiar with conducting examinations, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing treatment plans. This position is scheduled for 4 days/week, Monday through Thursday and we are open to flexing that schedule to 2-4 days for the right candidate.
Qualifications
- Medical knowledge, Surgical skills, and Diagnostic abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Current licensure as a Veterinarian
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, security and operational standards related to animal care and the practice of Veterinary Medicine with respect to healthcare, daily maintenance, impounding, behavior modification/enrichment and euthanasia – including limiting the practice of Veterinary Medicine to licensed Veterinarians
- Experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital
- Experience with electronic medical records systems
- Passion for animal welfare and advocacy
Required
- Examine animals pre-operatively to determine their ability to withstand surgery
- Perform surgical sterilizations, averaging 25-30 surgeries of mixed capacity, including small, medium and large male or female dogs up to 100lbs. as well as male and female cats
- Examine animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing
- Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery
